On this day in 1952, actor Humayun Faridi was conceived. The jewel of an actor left his impact in every acting genre in Bangladesh, from theater to commercial Bangla films.
Over the course of a four-decade career, Faridi rose to an elite level. His distinctive acting technique is still referenced in jokes, tribute videos, and social media posts.
In a newspaper article, Faridi's close friend and fellow director Shaer Khan affectionately referred to the actor as "Pagla" and "Genius." Shaer penned: "Humayun Faridi is one of a rare breed of actors. Similar to how Hollywood is still looking for the next Gregory Peck, we will have to wait 100 years for the next Faridi." Humayun Faridi was referred to as the "Gregory Peck of Bangladesh" by Shaer. His eulogy wouldn't be an exaggeration, given Faridi is widely recognized as one of Bangladesh's all-time best actors.
In Bangla movies, Faridi has played a range of parts, some of which were adversarial. But despite playing a villain, he still stole the show. His portrayal of "Kan kata Ramjan" has become legendary in our nation's TV history. One of his best performances, albeit slightly less well known, was as the chauvinist and abusive manager Mr. Hawladar in the cult classic movie Palabi Kothay. The movie seems more timely in the MeToo era, and it was undoubtedly ahead of its time.- Director

If anybody ever told you, that a village boy from the third world poor nation of Bangladesh with an unpronounceable name is one of the hunkiest, rising, multi-talented young actors with undeniable movie star charisma, intensity, talent and drive to match, you would probably laugh out loud at the thought of something so unprecedented and extraordinary in Hollywood... until of course you met Priyom Haider.
Not only does he maintain a near perfect physique free of sports enhancement drugs with his unparalleled dedication and discipline to fitness which was showcased on The Late Late Show with James Corden (2015), he also speaks several languages and can do almost any accent authentically just upon learning it phonetically. If that wasn't enough, he is also skilled in writing, directing, producing, editing and photography and modeling. He is also trained in film and stage combat and able to learn fight choreography relatively quickly because of his elite fitness level and athleticism. None of that of course, he learned in college where he graduated with two bachelor's degrees in Telecommunications (Journalism) and Finance, from The University of Georgia at a very young age. It was out of necessity to think outside the box and expand his skill sets in the Old Hollywood way, to separate himself from the rest of the crowd and do what is needed to move forward.
When he first came to Los Angeles from Georgia, he literally moved with absolutely no prior knowledge about the business, just only his ambition and the belief in himself. Not even a survival job lined up. As dangerous and risky that was, he managed to stay focused, survive and grow.
In the very beginning of his career, with no intention to wait around and waste precious time being anxious or rely on luck to book a worthy project to get into the Screen Actors Guild, he took matters into his own hands and qualified for SAG by writing, producing, directing, and starring in his very first comedy project, Cheater's Relief (2012).
He is also a big supporter of equal opportunity for minorities, diversity and the LGBT community, which was displayed in his award winning comedy movie, Match.con (2016).
Regardless of having an unusual and difficult to pronounce name, it also because of his unique, internationally mysterious and ambiguous look he is able to break the barriers of stereotypical roles that are written for people of South East Asia.
Like his biggest, greatest heroes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Lee, and Sylvester Stallone, he is determined to stay true to himself and make a worldwide impact with his career and name in order to serve a bigger purpose - to give back to the community and help the generations after. The future looks promising for Priyom Haider, and he is planning to never give up; also like his other hero, John Cena.- Director

Ehtesham (1927-2002) was an acclaimed film producer, director, distributor and screenwriter. He was born in Dhaka on 12 October 1927 of then British India (now Bangladesh). His full name is Abu Nur Muhammad Ehteshamul Haq but he was commonly known as Ehtesham. His father, Mohammad Yusuf, was a professor at Islamia College and his mother's name was Mosammat Kaniz Fatema. In 1950, Ehtesham started his career as a distributor in the film industry. In 1956-57 he formed a film distribution company named Leo Films. Zahir Raihan and Kamal Ahmed was his assistant directors in this movie, both of whom became famous film director later on. At the beginning of the history of film industry in Bangladesh, this movie was very popular and earned him fame and awards. This movie first introduced the tradition of romantic pair in Bangladeshi film by pairing Khan Ataur Rahman and Sumita Devi. Through this movie, Shabnam, Rahman and Subhash Dutta made their debut in the film and contributed to the growth of the film industry throughout their career.
